Statoil greenlights $7B Mariner heavy-oil project in UK North Sea

Statoil has made the investment decision to develop the Mariner heavy oil field development in the UK North Sea. The field was discovered in 1981 and Statoil entered the license as operator in 2007 with the aim of finally unlocking the resources. The heavy oil project will require pioneering technology in order to be developed.

General Synfuels to Test In-Situ Oil Shale Gasification Technology in Wyoming and Colorado

has secured an exploration agreement for lands in Wyoming and rights to a separate oil shale resource opportunity in Colorado. Collectively, the agreements will allow the company to test and develop the company’s in situ superheated air gasification process to recover hydrocarbons from oil shale, oil sands and heavy oil.
