The dual fuel system is available as an aftermarket upgrade for 2007 to 2009 Cummins ISX engines. Skygo Fuel Systems ’ latest dual fuel (natural gas/diesel) conversion system has been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) also took significant steps in 2012 planning for more hydrogen fueling stations in anticipation of the commercial availability of FCEVs in the 2015-2017 timeframe. PNNL also identified 41 commercial technologies that have entered the market, of which 39 are still commercially available.

Although the starch-to-ethanol pathway is similar to that used for corn ethanol, based upon initial calculations from Drexel University, OBE’s winter barley ethanol has the potential to meet the criteria of an Advanced Biofuel as defined by the Renewable Fuel Standard-2 (RFS-2) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007).
