Lexus is pricing the new 2018 RX 450hL three-row hybrid SUV—announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2017—with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $50,620—$1,550 more than its gasoline-engined RX 350L AWD three-rowed sibling. The RX 450hL is set to go on sale at dealers in April.

Unlike a conventional electric vehicle, which requires a number of hours to recharge, the 175-liter hydrogen tank system can be filled in less than four minutes—similar to the time it takes to refill a tank of gasoline or diesel in a vehicle with a traditional internal combustion engine.

According to the Maritz Automotive Research Group, which conducted the research based on a telephone survey of 1,207 licensed American drivers 18 years of age or older, top of mind consumer awareness about the electric-only vehicle category outpaces gasoline-electric hybrids. Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles rose from 15 to 22%.
