One of her recent inventions is a lithium-ion battery powered by engineered viruses.

Although production will initially focus on external fuel cells for recharging, the company plans to commercialize mobile handsets and PCs with built-in fuel cells by the end of fiscal 2009. DMFC battery chargers are portable power sources used to recharge battery-powered devices instead of plugging them into the wall.

System power (hp). Battery pack (kWh). kWh Li-ion battery pack—acceleration improves by about 9% (0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds); system power is up by 25% to 400 hp; and system torque is up 60% to 472 lb-ft. Voltage range for the battery, which powers the ERAD, is 270 - 400V; power output is 65 kW.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. Batteries not ready.
