Daimler has acquired an equity stake of nearly 10 per cent of Tesla Motors Inc, the American electric sports car manufacturer. The German carmaker, which owns brands including Mercedes Benz, already collaborates with Telsa over an electric version of their smart car model.

Paradox 1 - Soot: There's an apparent emissions paradox with plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Driving longer distances on battery power means more cold starts as the internal combustion engine (ICE) stops and starts up again after the batteries deplete. A supplemental electric heater comes right to mind.
