As underscored last month when GM announced it would build a plug-in hybrid version of its Saturn Vue, the logic of electric propulsion is compelling. Electric motors are clean, lightweight, maintenance-free and powerful. As it stands now, Toyota can incrementally improve their gasoline-only hybrids, staying out front in the mpg wars.

The electric sofas and scooters were so much cooler - and quieter - than the gasoline powered stinkers that predominate. Their Rechargeit.org campaign really makes the connections between renewable power and plug-in cars. nk City could do the 20 – 50 mile round-trips without petroleum, using only the power from Google’s solar array.

How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? A PHEV can provide power to an entire home in the case of an outage; A fleet of PHEVs could power critical systems during emergencies. Scientist have confirmed that unlike gasoline cars, plug-ins will get cleaner as they get older -- because our power grid is getting cleaner.

Plans Saturn Vue PHEV-10. Aims to get Saturn Vue on road in 2010; no production goal. The utility.will get a Ford plug-in hybrid vehicle by the end of this year and as many as 20 by some time in 2009 to test their durability, range and impact on the power grid, said Susan M.
