The range-extended electric Metrocab has become the first zero-emission-capable taxi to be licensed by Transport for London to operate on a trial basis as a London Hackney Carriage. The first few Metrocabs are already in operation on the streets of London. kW charger also supports recharging via any mains electric outlet.

Accumulated fuel consumption over Cenex drive cycle for standard London taxi (TX2) and DuoDrive-equipped TX2 (blue line). In recent tests, the DuoDrive taxi demonstrated a 56% improvement in fuel economy compared to a standard London Taxi (TX2), and simulations predict that an improvement of 100% is possible with further optimization.

UK retailer Sainsbury Online, which uses the Smith Electric Vehicles Edison electric vans for home shopping delivery in London, is ordering another 50 Smiths electric vans for its fleet. Sainsbury’s and TNT have signed up to work together with City Hall to share their experiences and to help other organizations across London to do the same.

We had the opportunity to drive the e-Golf from Wolfsburg to Braunschweig—a drive of about 36 km (22 miles) that offers some higher speed highway driving as well as in-city conditions. Higher levels of regen allow the driver to slow the vehicle almost to a stop (with “B”), while recharging the battery. Soeren Hinze.
