Exide Industries Ltd, India’s largest manufacturer of lead acid storage batteries and power storage solutions provider, and Switzerland-based Li-ion battery manufacturer Leclanché SA announced a joint venture to build lithium-ion batteries and provide energy storage systems for India’s electric vehicle market and grid-based applications.

The battery storage system also includes a voltage converter and power electronics to manage the energy flow between renewable energy sources, the house interface, and the Li-Ion high-voltage battery from the BMW i3.

In July, the DOE announced that ARPA-E had received approximately 3,500 submissions for the approximately $150 million available as part of the first Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0000065) released 27 April 2009.
