Navigant suggests that, since the automakers have already designed the vehicles that they will be selling in 2018, they will become more vocal in 2014 to push for changes; the firm expects the dispute to escalate, perhaps resulting in legal action. Of these, 170,000 will be plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and 134,000 will be BEVs.

Battery is under 10kWh: Currently only five PHEVs would not meet the proposed 10 kWh threshold: Toyota Prius Prime (8.8 kWh) Hyundai IONIQ PHEV (8.9 kWh) Kia Niro PHEV (8.9 But all of these PHEVs have batteries of around 9 kWh and so they could easily be upgraded to 10 kWh to qualify for the tax credit.

At the Tokyo Motor Show, Volkswagen unveiled the first model publicly shown based on the MQB: the Cross Coupé all-wheel-drive (AWD) plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). This year, Volkswagen Group will introduce the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB, modularen Querbaukasten) for the Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA and SEAT brands. (At Earlier post. ).
