The XC90, as Volvo’s largest SUV, is currently its most popular model in the United States. I averaged 25 mpg over 364 miles of mostly freeway driving. Moving towards more juice.

So while other SUVs might get dinged for these things, we chalk it up to part of the experience. Your combined MPGe is 49, and your gas-only combined MPG is 20. But if you have the scratch and the access to juice, it makes a strong argument for itself. They’re supposed to be. You don’t need the 4xe.

As I found in a recent drive of the RX 450h+, this translates to a luxurious crossover SUV with usable electric-only range, comfortable ride, and competitive technology. But it’s not cheap; it’s not elegant; and Lexus’ tech foibles carry over from the standard RX and other models.
