As underscored last month when GM announced it would build a plug-in hybrid version of its Saturn Vue, the logic of electric propulsion is compelling. Electric motors are clean, lightweight, maintenance-free and powerful. The latest lithium-ion batteries are energy-dense, durable, compact and recyclable. Toyota had a different take.

As Burning Man attempts to go green, here's to hoping they become the first American City to ban the internal combustion engine within its borders. Contracts for lithium batteries for the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue and the Chevrolet Volt have received much press. GM has been getting a lot of attention with its plug-in intentions.
