Rio Tinto, Turquoise Hill Resources (TRQ) and the Government of Mongolia have reached an agreement that will move the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) copper mine project ( earlier post ) forward, resetting the relationship between the partners and increasing the value the project delivers for Mongolia.

China Yuchai International Limited announced that its main operating subsidiary, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited (GYMCL) and GYMCL’s joint venture company, Y&C Engine Co., Bei Ben), and Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Co., Yiji Group), to form a new joint venture company to be located in Baotou, Inner Mongolia.

A team of students from the Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University is helping to improve the air quality for nomadic communities in Mongolia. A drought in Mongolia has led to food shortages, prompting the nomads to migrate to the Ger district in the capital of Ulaanbaatar, one of the world’s most polluted cities.

Additionally, Shell Global Solutions International B.V. Shenhua has built the world’s first million-tonne level direct coal liquefaction project in China’s Inner Mongolia, equipped with two gasifiers using Shell’s coal gasification technology to produce hydrogen from coal. A joint working team will be set up to implement the agreement.
