The first phase would involve installing 27 charging sites along I-5 at 50-mile intervals for medium-duty electric vehicles, such as delivery vans, by 2025. Of the 27 proposed sites, 16 are in California, five are in Oregon and six are in Washington. HDR completed the study.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has selected 8 awardees for a total of $8,875,457 in funding to install Direct Current (DC) fast charging stations on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR 99), and along United States Highway 101 (US-101) from San Jose traveling South in California. This project will develop and test a new low-head modular hydropower technology in a canal in Oregon's North Unit Irrigation District to produce cost-competitive electricity. This project will develop, install and evaluate new low-head modular hydropower turbines at a constructed waterway in Austin, TX. Hydro Green Energy.
