Hyundai Motor America has introduced its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Tucson ix Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). The Tucson ix FCEV made its US public debut at Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy 2011 in Washington, DC. Hyundai unveiled its Tucson/ ix35 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, saying that the introduction was moving it another step closer to the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The Tucson / ix35 FCEV incorporates several important innovations over the previous generation Tucson FCEV that will enable it to meet its goal of ramping up production volume of FCEVs into the thousands by 2012.

Hyundai Motor Company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Swiss hydrogen company H2 Energy (H2E). Beginning in 2019 and over a five-year period, Hyundai Motor and H2 Energy will provide 1,000 heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks ( earlier post ) and an adequate supply chain for renewable hydrogen. Business Korea reports that sales of Hyundai Motor’s Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicle this year reached 1,075 units on May 17, exceeding the 949 units sold for the whole of last year. This marks the first time Hyundai has sold more than 1,000 hydrogen cars annually since 2013. It joins Hyundai’s successful new Kona, Tucson and Santa Fe in a full line-up of Hyundai crossovers for the US market. Kona Electric features a 150 kW (201 horsepower) permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor supplied by a high-voltage 64 kWh lithium-ion battery.
