A Foss Maritime Company’ Green Assist hybrid tug ( earlier post ) has joined the Foss fleet for the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, California. To help defray the added costs of development and construction of the first hybrid tug, both the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles contributed funding.

Also, it’s a maintenance issue. For those vehicles, maintenance is key. So maintenance and uptime is really key and electric vehicles are better for that in this market. The hydraulics in those vehicles are usually the number-one maintenance problem, so they are eliminating one of the biggest problems. Garbage trucks.
