With more than 750,000 units sold over the year, the number of electric vehicles in the global parc—primarily Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)—surpassed 2 million units in 2016, following a year of strong growth in 2015, according to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2017.

Using life cycle assessment, the researchers quantified the total environmental impacts of shared e-scooters associated with global warming; acidification; eutrophication; and respiratory impacts. There are multiple interesting aspects to the vehicle, including GM’s rationale for offering fast charging as an option (it’s not to go across country), but one of the most manifest when driving the car (aside from the “Wheee!” Currently, DOE data suggests that 90% of charging is done at home. no garage or car port in apartments, etc.

Not to be outdone, on Tuesday the Norwegian electric car startup, Think, was in Portland being wooed by the state as one of 8 potential places to site their first car manufacturing facility in the United States. The big problems now is how to create a battery that can charge rapidly and infrastructure to charge them.
