Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have discovered a new way to train microbes to make n -butanol. The resulting biofuel, n -butanol, is a carbon-neutral fuel alternative that can be used in blends with diesel or gasoline. The results are reported in an open-access paper in the journal Communications Biology.

Michigan-based ALTe LLC will unveil the prototype for Range Extended Electric Powertrain (REEP) ( earlier post ) at the 2010 National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Work Truck Show and Green Truck Summit. Held in conjunction with the 46 th Annual NTEA convention in St. Louis, MO, the event will run from 9-12 March 2010.

These projects put more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy-efficient light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles on the road, and establish 542 refueling locations across the country. The vehicles and infrastructure being funded include the use of natural and renewable gas, propane, ethanol, biodiesel, electricity, and hybrid technologies.
