Toshiba Corporation has received an order to supply a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) for a power frequency regulation project in Hamilton, Ohio. The SCiB has found numerous applications, including in electric and hybrid vehicles. Demand for such measures has increased with the growth of renewable generation.

The US Department of Energy announced $35 million in awards for 12 projects that find new ways to harness medium-voltage electricity for applications in industry, transportation, on the grid and beyond. The breaker is designed to protect MVDC systems from electrical faults and expected to respond in 500 microseconds.

The 10-year agreement calls for GE’s baseline commitment of 500,000 gallons annually of the low-emissions jet fuel to be used at the company’s main jet engine testing facility in Peebles, Ohio. The electric power for the manufacturing processes will come largely from renewable solar and wind energy.
