Nikola Corporation has received a California Air Resources Board (CARB) Zero Emission Powertrain (ZEP) Executive Order that is a requirement for Nikola’s Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) to be eligible for CARB’s Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) program.

Nikola announced that Nikola and its dealer network have received orders for 100 Class 8 Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Customers will also be eligible for a $40,000 clean commercial vehicle tax credit from the federal government due to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.

A new study by Deloitte, the business advisory firm, concludes that despite rising fuel prices, the mass adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe is still some distance away. In the UK, however, consumers consider the ability to travel at least 200 miles between charges to be the tipping point, especially in London and the South East.

The vehicle scrappage scheme may be in full swing here in the UK, but in the United States there remain a number of questions shrouding the proposed ‘cash for guzzlers’ programme. Generally new cars must be rated with a combined economy of 22mpg and new trucks must have fuel economy of at least 18mpg.
