Volvo Trucks unveiled a completely new, fully electric rear axle at the IAA Transport show in Hannover, Germany. More batteries mean longer range, which creates opportunities for long distance transports to also be electrified. They can currently cover a wide range of transport assignments.

Fisker Automotive has signed an agreement with BMW that will cover the supply of engines and other components for future Fisker models. The first ‘Project Nina’ derivative will be a mid-size premium sedan utilizing Fisker’s Ever (electric vehicle with extended range) technology.

Speaking on the future of powertrains at the Aachen Colloquium, Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management at BMW AG, Development, said that BMW will enter the fuel cell market early in the next decade, starting with very small production runs. BMW Group is planning more models with electric drive systems in the future.

Starting this year, thousands of battery-powered electric drive Volkswagen vehicles capable of both loading and offloading current—bidirectional charging, as industry calls it—have been rolling off production lines in eastern Germany. Volkswagen's current ID models with 77 kWh battery option now come ready for bidirectional charging.

The BlueZero E-CELL with battery-electric drive featured a range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) using electric drive alone. With a charging capacity of 15 kW, the lithium-ion batteries in the BlueZERO E-CELL and the extended range E-Cell PLUS could store enough energy for a range of 50 kilometers (31 miles) within 30 minutes.

That equates to some 20,000 accidents a year in Germany alone. If the camera fails to spot any road signs showing a speed limit or a speed limit is lifted, the legal speed limits based on the navigation data are shown instead, such as a maximum speed of 100 km/h on country roads in Germany or 50 km/h in built-up areas.
