European car market logs best year for alternative fueled vehicles, lowest diesel share since 2001

Poland, Slovakia, Luxembourg and Lithuania all posted record levels of volume, while it was the best year since 2007 for Spain and Estonia, and the best year since 2008 for Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Latvia. Strong results in Spain, Poland and the Netherlands were offset by falls in the UK, Italy and Sweden.

EEA: average CO2 emissions from new cars and new vans in Europe increased in 2018

Sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEV) continued to increase. Together with Estonia, Finland and Malta, these were the only countries where the average emissions of new cars decreased from 2017 to 2018. With around 150,000 registrations, sales of BEVs increased by 50% compared to 2017.

Honda targets new Guinness World Records title for fuel efficiency with 8,500-mile diesel drive across Europe

If successful, the new record will apply to all cars, including hybrid and electric models. The official Guinness World Records title is “Lowest Fuel Consumption – all 24 contiguous EU countries”, measured in liters per 100km and miles per gallon calculated over the entire journey.

Diesel new vehicle market share in Europe in February dropped to 39.5%; SUVs still driving growth

This growth can be attributed to key markets such as Germany, Spain and France, as well as five other markets (Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Estonia and Luxembourg), which posted double digit growth. In contrast, the rest of the segments combined recorded a significant decline in volume of 3.6%.
