The hybrid transaxle in the upcoming Lexus HS 250h hybrid sedan ( earlier post ) will use an electric transmission oil pump in place of a mechanical pump, further shifting ancillary loads from mechanical to electrical propulsion, according to Toyota.

The 2010 HS 250h, Lexus’ first dedicated hybrid and the fourth offering in its lineup ( earlier post ), will carry an MSRP for the standard version of $34,200, while the Premium model will carry an MSRP of $36,970. The HS 250h has the best combined EPA mpg rating of any luxury vehicle in the US.

As part of what has become a global recall of the third-generation Prius, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA Inc, will conduct a voluntary safety recall on approximately 133,000 2010 Model Year Prius vehicles and 14,500 Lexus Division 2010 HS 250h vehicles to update software in the vehicle’s anti-lock brake system (ABS). The LS 600h extended the range further in 2007, marking another first in being the first production car to use a full hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine.
