HEV - The current generation of production Hybrids are 100% gas fueled vehicles with a few EV tricks like Regen Braking and no wasteful Idling. Full , Mild , Weak , Series, Parallel, Series-Parallel, The Honda configuration such as that in the Insight is a Parallel system, in that the ICE and Motor contribute motive power in parallel.

Fuel cell cars should be plug-in hybrids so that the fuel cell is used only for extended range, and the fuel cell stack and hydrogen storage can be smaller. Toyotas Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries are considered "non-hazardous waste" [See "high voltage electrical systems" ]. I love the idea of powering my car from solar power.
