More than 150 leading marine scientists from 26 countries are calling for immediate action by policymakers to reduce CO 2 emissions sharply so as to avoid widespread and severe damage to marine ecosystems from increasing ocean acidification—the “other CO2 problem”. They issued this warning in the Monaco Declaration, released on 30 January.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance will introduce zero-emission vehicles in the United States and Japan starting with electric vehicles from 2010. The Alliance aims to take the leadership of zero-emission mobility in the automotive industry and will start mass-marketing electric vehicles globally in 2012.

The plan for the Renault-Nissan Alliance is to introduce zero emission vehicles in the USA and Japan beginning with electric cars from 2010 onwards. It then hopes to take leadership in zero emission mobility and start mass marketing electric cars globally by 2012. Its fuel cell vehicle work is considered more of a long term project.

Electric vehicles have many benefits over traditional gasoline-powered cars, including lower emissions, cheaper running costs and (often) government incentives. Lower emissions. While battery production for electric cars does produce some emissions , these emissions are dwarfed by the emissions produced by gasoline-powered vehicles.
