The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed details of the financial incentives that will be made available to buyers of electric cars from January 2011. Must be Battery electric, plug-in hybrid or a hydrogen fuel cell car. 0 g/km for EV. Max 75 g/km for PHEV. Min electric range 10 miles (16 km) PHEV.

The small Indian company known as Reva specializes in electric cars of the diminutive variety. Aside from their current offering, the G-Wiz, the company will introduce two new electric models at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

Last week, Nissan announced plans to make electric car batteries at its plant in Sunderland, creating 350 new jobs in the process (see ‘ Nissan to make electric car batteries at Sunderland plant ’). It has also outlined targets for the National Grid to increase the amount of electricity that comes from purely renewable sources.

Founded in 2003, Silicon Valley based Tesla Motors is currently the only car manufacturer in the US or Europe manufacturing and selling highway capable electric vehicles in serial production. REVA: An Indian company that markets the G-Wiz in the UK. The company hopes to begin selling the Fisker Karma in mid 2010 in Europe.
