The batteries—each with a capacity of 33 kWh—are equipped with a BMW-owned battery management system and are also used by the car manufacturer in the BMW i3. Vattenfall will purchase the new batteries from the BMW plant in Dingolfing and use them in all storage projects.

While fossil fuel generating capacity could be turned on and off relatively easily to match variations in electrical requirement, matching demand with a renewable-powered grid is far more difficult; the wind cannot be made to blow harder or the sun to shine brighter to match desired levels.

Electric fuel cost is a fraction of gasoline or diesel fossil fuel cost, even at a time when petroleum prices are temporarily reduced due to geopolitical manipulations and manufacturing costs. PHEVLERs make our electric grid more efficient. [ PHEVLERs are better than BEVs in support of the electric grid.
