ORNL team shows using ionic liquid as lubricant additive improves gear performance

Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory have shown that a certain class of ionic liquids (ILs), when mixed with commercially available oils, can make gears run more efficiently with less noise and better durability. Results were published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. Oil-soluble ionic liquids (ILs) have recently been demonstrated as effective lubricant additives of friction reduction and wear protection for sliding contacts.

StreetScooter to form JV with Chery for electric light utility vehicles

StreetScooter GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post and market leader for electric light commercial vehicles (eLCV), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery Holding Group (Chery) establishing a joint venture between the two companies. Total investment could be up to €500 million. Chery is one of China’s leading automobile manufacturers, with a 20% market share in electric commercial vehicles sector.

Series production of Volkswagen ID.3 starts at Zwickau in November; complete conversion of plant from ICEV to EV

Series production of Volkswagen’s ID.3 electric vehicle will start at the Zwickau vehicle plant in November. Currently, the last robots are being installed and the assembly line is being commissioned. At Zwickau, Volkswagen is converting an entire vehicle plant from 100% internal combustion engines to 100% electric vehicles for the first time. The ID.3 is the first model in an entirely new generation of electric cars based on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive toolkit (MEB).
