BYD Company Ltd (BYD) and Rotterdam City entered into an agreement to deliver BYD’s all-electric e6 vehicles as part of the Netherlands’ green transportation project “75-EV-RO”; these will be the first BYD e6s in Europe. The City of Bogota, Colombia, has launched a pilot project to spur the use of electric vehicles in Bogota’s center-city taxi fleet. The first taxis are expected to be operational in the city in the next few months. On 29 December 2011, the City of Bogota enacted Decree No. 677 to support the project over a three-year period.

Plans to launch a fleet of fully-electric taxi cars in London have been delayed due to a lack of suitable charging points. In the accident, a driver crashed a Nissan GT-R into a BYD e6 electric taxi, and then collided with a separate gasoline taxicab. The e6 hit a tree before bursting into flames; the 3 occupants of the e6 were killed in the crash. The type and severity of the accident was extremely rare.
