Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant is starting production of the 2012 Focus Electric ( earlier post )—a five-passenger, battery-electric car Ford expects will achieve more than a 100 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) fuel economy rating. 1 gallon of gasoline=33.7 Optimized gear ratios enabling improvement in fuel economy.

Chevrolet unveiled the second-generation Volt extended range EV at the North American International Auto Show. GM estimates fuel economy to be 41 mpg combined (MY 2015 = 37 mpg) with 102 mpge (MY 2015 = 98 mpge). Farah suggested that the new Volt may be able to boost that figure to nearly 90% in moderate climates.
