Hydrous ethanol has been used in the United States as a transportation fuel for at least one hundred years. The Model T Ford, which debuted in 1908, was originally designed to operate on alcohol. The Model T and Model A Fords were later designed to operate on either alcohol or gasoline or a blend of alcohol and gasoline.

The UN has certified twenty-six firms worldwide as Designated Operational Entities (DOEs) to “validate” the promises of emissions reducers and then to “verify,” often years later, that those reductions actually occurred. SGS is one of two companies that dominate the carbon-validation business.

Despite this, a 2003 EPRI study , assuming only $2/gallon gas , zero buying incentives, and a PHEV premium of $3-$5,000 more than standard hybrids, shows that the total lifetime cost of ownership for a PHEV will be lower than that of any other vehicle type -- so the payback will be there. What about battery safety?
