Well, not really cheated, but I just went with a retail solar generator system instead of DIYing that part myself from à la carte components. It’s more expensive since you’re paying for a pre-designed and engineered solution, but damn if it doesn’t make it easy! To be fair, I cheated a bit.

Dimitri, a buddy of mine from Florida who is working on his second conversion, ask what my plans were for balancing, but I had none. He had found a few schematics of shunting balancers that people had designed. I've designed a simple cell balancer that takes advantage of the nature of lithium during charging.

I suspect that the correct plug will be of a twist-lock design as is typical of many higher voltage and amperage plugs used in commercial service and for industrial equipment. The nonprofit CalCars does conversions to demonstrate new designs and provide a platform for different batteries; we dont sell conversions. We have sponsored the EAA-PHEV project and our Open-Source designs are being used by some of the private companies as well as technically advanced individuals.
