Late yesterday, Ford announced a "customer satisfaction program" that will ask that owners of 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid models built before October 17 to bring the cars to their dealer for a free software upgrade. The fix is meant.

The plug-in Prius is a separate model from the all new 2010 Prius Hybrid. The fleet models will be part of a test bed for Toyota and future development of the plug-in Prius may at some point lead to a consumer model. The plug-in Prius is expected to launch sometime in 2010.

Hybrid gains were largely due to an increase in Prius sales (up 29.7% GM dealers delivered 189,443 total vehicles in July, a 19.4% Ford, Lincoln and Mercury retail sales increased 9% versus a year ago. Ford Escape sales totaled 20,241, a July record and up 94% versus a year ago, and Mercury Mariner sales were up 71%.

General Motors dealers in the United States delivered 173,007 vehicles in April, down 34% compared with a year ago. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 129,898, down 31% compared with April 2008. The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted April sales of 8,385 units, down 61.5%. —the highest monthly share yet.
