The university is taking part in an utility rate program developed by its local utility New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC), electrification software provider Bellawatt, and Fermata Energy. The university controls whether to discharge by parking the EVs and plugging them into the Fermata Energy bidirectional charger.

We noted in December that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, was working to update standards for the interface between plug-in electric cars and the grid, and planned to agree on a set within months. And for this ecosystem to be robust, there must be commonality, especially when owners are plugging into the electrical grid.

Or whatever it costs. I went and spoke to their City Council and said “For $50,000 a house I’ll put in solar AND battery systems and take you off the grid. If you’re going to do it, take the homes off the grid. That’s pretty mean to the rest of the grid. If you don’t use their (SCE) power, you don’t need their poles!
