Three years ago, the magazine Popular Mechanics even wrote an article prodding the auto industry for not building the 100 m.p.g. They reality always seems to be just a few years away, the magazine complained. Whats more, businesses can also afford to spend a little more on their vehicles until the cost of the technology falls.

Fortunately, one of my fellow contributing editors at the magazine is a bundle of answers. An electric SUV is going to have more aerodynamic drag than an electric sedan like a Tesla Model S or Lucid Air. Is it worth the extra almost 50 percent added to the cost of the car? Will we have a universal standard for charging?

Tax credit incentives are also available to consumers in the U.S. Maybe they can sell it on the ability to be recycled.
