The cost of the electric vehicles is more due to the cost of the battery that counts 40% of the electric bus. The average cost of the lithium-ion battery packs for large orders has fallen from about $600 a kilowatt-hour in 2015 to $150 a kilowatt-hour in 2020 according to the report of the ReportLinker.

Millions will plug-in their electric vehicles [EV], plug-in hybrids [PHEV] and fuel cell vehicles [FCV] at night when electricity is cheap, then plug-in during the day when energy is expensive and sell those extra electrons at a profit. Shai Agassi predicts that Israel will have over 100,000 electric vehicles in use by 2010.

Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. Considering the cost of batteries, these are disposable cars. Glad to see the variety & availability of electic commuter cars (vs hybrids & PHEV) is rising.

A couple of drawbacks to consider might be the capitalization costs of building these stations and the batteries that they would have to have in stock.
