The project will develop a new device called the Galloping Hydrokinetic Energy Extraction Device that will convert fast-moving river currents into an oscillating motion that will drive a dielectric elastomer generator (DEG). The project will assess the cost of manufacturing these systems at various scales. DOE Funding: $240,000.

I went and spoke to their City Council and said “For $50,000 a house I’ll put in solar AND battery systems and take you off the grid. If you’re going to do it, take the homes off the grid. That’s pretty mean to the rest of the grid. I’ve been amazed that most companies seem to front the cost, even start ups.
