Study sees gradual, focused replacement of lead-acid SLI batteries by Li-ion batteries over next couple of years

Green Car Congress

In a paper in the Journal of Power Sources , they suggest that the replacement will probably be specific to certain vehicle OEMs and geographical locations. The Pb-acid SLI battery will still continue to be in demand for the many small and cheap ICE vehicles where cost of the battery replacement will always be the deciding factor.

Industry study finds lead-acid to remain most wide-spread automotive energy storage for foreseeable future; new chemistries continue to grow

Green Car Congress

Advanced lead-based batteries (AGM and EFB technologies) are installed to meet extra requirements in start-stop and basic- micro-hybrid vehicles, due to their increased charge recoverability and higher deep-cycle resistance. Therefore their cycle life, power density and charge acceptance will need to be further improved.

Balqon Begins Production of Electric Port Drayage Trucks for San Pedro Ports

Green Car Congress

An initiative of the Port of Los Angeles’s Clean Air Action Plan, the development and demonstration of the Balqon Nautilus E30 electric truck was co-funded by the Port and South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) at a total cost of $527,000. A battery management system monitors each battery cell.

PNNL study outlines requirements for grid storage, reviews four electrochemical energy storage systems: vanadium redox flow, Na-beta, Li-ion and lead-carbon

Green Car Congress

To be successful, systems will need to evolve—in some cases, considerably—to compete financially with the cost of natural gas production. EES is already an established, valuable approach for improving the reliability and overall use of the entire power system (generation, transmission, and distribution [T&D]).

The promise of wireless charging: smaller batteries, longer battery life, fewer charging stations

Charged EVs

We started from day one focusing on high-power wireless charging, and we developed a modular approach. We connect high-power communication lines into the DC charging system of the car. We have more efficient power electronics. We have lower EMF emissions than the people who are trying to do low-power wireless.
