These European designs are perfectly good EVs, although their limited battery range and high price compared to the gasoline versions are major drawbacks. The pioneering Leaf has served as Nissan’s designated electric model and is now joined by the new Ariya crossover , a larger, more stylish crossover, but similarly a stand-alone new model.

Probably the most needed and least controversial proposed change is the elimination of the phaseout of the tax cap that begins in the quarter after a manufacturer sells 200,000 BEVs or PHEVs in the US. But all of these PHEVs have batteries of around 9 kWh and so they could easily be upgraded to 10 kWh to qualify for the tax credit.
