The Ban on EV Conversions is Over!!! Yesterday (June 7, 2010), Electric Mobility Canada sent out an e-mail advising its Ontario members that MTO has lifted the ban, and has implemented an interim solution for the licensing of electric vehicle conversions. About CalCars Plug-In Hybrids FAQ How to Get a PHEV Where PHEVs are Carmakers Say. Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. The nonprofit CalCars does conversions to demonstrate new designs and provide a platform for different batteries; we dont sell conversions.

I imagine there will be tax incentives to build green generators when were at that stage. Once electric cars are more common, demand for electricity will rise, and electricity producers will have to look at big generators such as dams, nuclear stations or decentralised wind turbines that feed in to the grid. However, I dont welcome this news.

The high cost of manufacturing the Volt is exactly why the tax credits of $2500 for a vehicle with 4 kWh of battery capacity and $417 for every kWh over 4 (so that there is a $7500 credit for the Volt) were legislated. Then they are driving by electric car conversions every day and not seeing them.
