The Gen 4 model achieves 61 MPGe on certified dyno testing, compared to 13 MPG for the gasoline version. Vehicles purchased by fleets in California are eligible for special funding via the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP).

Quicke sidenote: PHEV3A as an acronym now encompasses the Tour de AZ: "Spirit of DC" Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle All Around Arizona (PHEV3A) EVducational Tour (tho it could change, depending on sponsorship to AAA Tour de AZ, or even eTour de AZ). Currently, we're in need of human resources in staging the Tour de AZ.

Lately Goldman has been driving one around DC, meeting with policy makers and pushing for consumer incentives for hybrid conversions.

Ah NiMH battery and a variable-voltage system in which a boost converter boosts the operating voltage of the system to a maximum of 520 V DC. Estimated EPA fuel economy ratings are 53/46/50 mpg US city/highway/combined (4.4/5.1/4.7 The 144V output from the battery is boosted to 520V DC maximum before conversion to alternating current.
