Ford launched a $50,000 challenge for software developers to write innovative apps to help consumers better understand and improve their personal fuel efficiency. Participants will have access to Ford’s OpenXC connectivity research platform as a sandbox to create and test their ideas for the Personalized Fuel Efficiency Apps Challenge.

Moj.io: pronounced (mo-jee-o) is cloud-connecting cars with a cellular device that lets apps on smart phones talk to virtually any car built after 1995. moj.io’s software developer kit will support apps for consumers, service providers and automotive retailers, connecting drivers to their driving world in real-time.

The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA , rates fuel economy at 40 highway when running in gasoline mode only. Clean Fleet Report ran a few test loops to get a feel for real world fuel economy and electric range. That number jumps to 105 MPGe, or miles per gallon equivalent, when combining electricity and gasoline.

We are the highest fuel economy of any hybrid, of any gasoline car without a plug sold in the US. Design objectives included: Fuel economy.
