Participants will have access to Ford’s OpenXC connectivity research platform as a sandbox to create and test their ideas for the Personalized Fuel Efficiency Apps Challenge.

The MyCarma application uses the phone’s GPS to capture an owner’s personal drive cycle. That personal drive cycle is fed into predictive vehicle models of new vehicles.

What they do offer is solid utility for the moneyed person who is often carrying passengers and/or cargo about town. Another $3,200 replaces the Harman Kardon audio with a Bowers and Wilkins system.

The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA , rates fuel economy at 40 highway when running in gasoline mode only. Clean Fleet Report ran a few test loops to get a feel for real world fuel economy and electric range. That number jumps to 105 MPGe, or miles per gallon equivalent, when combining electricity and gasoline.
