This is a move that GM, Ford and whatever’s left of Chrysler should have made, but it’s too creative, too bold and too American for any of those legacy car companies to pull off in the 21st century. Really Ford? The “new&# Ford Taurus? Their brand names don’t mean anything any longer.

Electric cars everywhere you looked, quiet as a mouse and making a total mockery out of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler who could have been making these cars for the last decade, but instead had to be pushed to the brink of bankruptcy and shame-filled failure before they would start even talking about making these cars.

Here’s what the brainiacs at General Motors sent the premier EV car conference on the West Coast. Ford and whatever it is they call Chrysler this week didn’t even bother to show up. There were at least four exhibitors at this year’s conference directly addressing the fleet market.

Daimler/Mercedes Took over Daimler/Chrysler Sprinter PHEV program. Ford Escape PHEV-40 around 2012. Several after-market companies have done PHEV conversions of the Ford Escape hybrid and one has done a retrofit of the F-150 pickup -- see Where PHEVs Are and ICE-Conversions.) This reminds me of Chrysler tying to sell little three wheelers (I think thats what they were) in China when the people really wanted a normal car.
