Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation will begin offering retrofit versions of its Hydraulic Launch Assist (HLA) hybrid power system ( earlier post ) for refuse trucks later this year. The system is best suited for vehicles that operate in stop and go duty cycles such as refuse trucks—the initial commercialization target.

Eaton Corporation has established a program to assist diesel truck fleet owners in applying for the $156 million in grants for diesel hybrid trucks that are available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). An existing diesel truck has to be taken out of service for each new hybrid truck that is purchased.
