Sure, an electric car would be nice, but that would have been last Sunday, when the nearly 80 electric vehicles in a “CO2 Race&# combed the streets of Copenhagen. And the international press did its job. They were long gone.

The Climate Change Commission has recommended setting a time limit on light vehicles with internal combustion engines entering, being manufactured, or assembled in Aotearoa as early as 2030. Slovenia, Iceland, the Netherlands, Ireland, India, Denmark, Sweden, Israel, Germany and the United Kingdom all have 2030 deadlines.

So far Israel, Denmark, Australia , Hawaii and California’s Bay Area have plans to implement the Better Place model. Wind, solar and nuclear could easily change our electrical sources. To electrify transportation, we are looking at new generation so that would be a mix of natural gas and wind. — Dean Hewitt 20.
