In June 2021, DHL Freight started piloting a Bio-LNG solution (Bio-Liquefied Natural Gas from sustainable biomass) with Shell on three haulier trucks to reduce CO 2 emissions in road freight transport for DHL’s customer Grundfos. In the first five months, the volume of Bio-LNG lifted has reduced 87 tons of CO 2 eq.

DME produces zero soot, zero sulfur oxides (SO x ), less NO x and also significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel (especially if made from biogas). The German government is co-funding the three-year project that will test the first cars to run on dimethyl ether (DME) ( earlier post ), commonly used as a non-toxic propellant in aerosol spray gas, and monooxymethylene ether (OME1). Like liquefied petroleum gas, DME must be stored in a slightly pressurized tank.
