Audi is further expanding its presence in China through a second partnership. The future series version will be produced in Europe and China, and is intended for sales worldwide. The 800-volt technology on board enables extremely fast charging: it takes no more than 10 minutes to recharge enough energy for 300 km.

The Chevy Volt , a plug-in electric car, will have the battery power to take most American drivers to and from work every day without using any gasoline at all. The vehicle will be recharged at night, plugged into a standard home outlet. the year that the Volt should arrive in showrooms.

Bolstered by production in China for that key market, soon to be augmented by new plants in Austin, Texas, and Germany, Tesla does not appear to be looking back, but if it did would continue to see other automakers in its rearview mirror. Tesla found the volume (after some initial stumbles) that has moved the company toward fiscal stability.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. See Chevy Volt for latest. Plans Cadillac Converj, Opel Ampera, other versions.
