The MSG process, under license from Idaho National Laboratory, uses a combination of molten sodium salts (sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide) to convert a carbon feedstock and water into hydrogen. Oil sands operators use Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) to produce hydrogen from natural gas.

The particles can compose up to 80 percent of the liquid’s weight while leaving it no more viscous than motor oil.
