Graphite is a pure form of carbon. However, the use of silicon is limited by its tendency to expand significantly during charge and discharge, so graphite is expected to remain the main anode material for the foreseeable future. Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms. Its physical structure allows it to store lithium ions.
