According to the latest annual life-cycle study from the Automotive Science Group ( ASG ), the all-new lightweight aluminum 2015 Ford F-150 leads the full-size light-duty truck competition in all environmental and economic performance areas; accordingly, ASG selected the F-150 as its Best Full-size Truck of 2015.

Several after-market companies have done PHEV conversions of the Ford Escape hybrid and one has done a retrofit of the F-150 pickup -- see Where PHEVs Are and ICE-Conversions.) Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technologies are not yet competitive due primarily to the high cost of advanced batteries. People wont buy a full car.

These lower cost EVs will also come with smaller batteries that produce fewer carbon emissions than their larger counter parts. But a minimum of 150-175 miles of range for BEVs could also make sense. It is like incentivizing automakers to produce ICE vehicles with larger gas tanks instead of a higher MPG rating.
